If You Want to Be Your Own Boss, Have A Look At This...
By: Pam Hamilton
If you are the owner of the business, it is very necessary to set the right goals for your business. If you don't know the path through which you are moving , then it will be difficult to know when you are arrived and you may move in a totally incorrect way.
What will be your goals, if you are an owner of a small business? Obviously the first thing will be to cover the payroll, the second is to make a sufficient amount of money and finally enjoy you life with your family by going on a vacation.
Every entrepreneur will be having goal to become independent within a long or short period of time. The start-up and goals of the business is must be in such a way that the business must run smoothly even in the non-existence of the owner. When you are out of station for sometimes and can't look after your business for few days, and when return back you should find your business running in a better than before you left. At this point you can do whatever you want like, sell the business, start a new one and so on.
Financial independence is most important in everyone's life to lead their life doing what they want to do. No one likes to get up early in the morning, going to work an hour earlier than everyone, everyday. Or leaving to work at late night and not at all going to vacation with their family for the rest of their life. Isn't it.
The above is just an explanation of a job that everyone hates and which is truly miserable that one can do. This is not only in the case of job holders. This is what most of the small business proprietors and mom and pop shops are doing. So, it is commonly referred as "buying a job".
So what is the key to being able to walk away? It's simple. You need systems in place so that everyone in your business knows exactly what's expected of them. And you have to spend the time working on your business not just in it, to insure that those systems get built.
It is fact that when you hired a new worker they don't know anything about the work. Do any of the existing employees will help them to know what they have to do? In such case how can you make sure that the new employee is learning everything what you want?
As a proprietor of the business it is your duty to look after all these things. Make sure that the systems are put in a place as the business grows. This is very important because, the system will help the employees to know about their job and perform it in an effective way.
Employee training, development and testing of the product, accounting procedures, inventory, customer service, marketing, promotion and hiring, facility management and so on are some of the important features which the successful system should include.
E-Myth is a great book by Michael Gerber which is helpful in building your understanding in how systems help grow your business. Hope it will help you in creating these systems.
